16 Days of Activism Against Violence: Celebrating Breakthrough Movement's 3rd Anniversary

Updated: Feb 1

As we commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence yearly, we also want to recognize a significant milestone—the third anniversary of the Breakthrough Movement. This campaign is a powerful reminder of our resolve to combat violence and promote equality and inclusion. In this blog post, we will delve into the importance of the 16-day campaign and reflect on the remarkable achievements of the Breakthrough Movement in the past three years.

Uniting Against Violence:

The 16 Days of Activism Against Violence is a global campaign that brings people and organizations from all over the world together to raise awareness, advocate for change, and support survivors of violence. This year, the campaign holds even greater significance as it aligns with the 3rd anniversary of the Breakthrough Movement, a movement devoted to transforming society and putting an end to violence based on gender.

Breakthrough Movement's Impact:

Over the past three years, the Breakthrough Movement has emerged as a positive force in Cambodia, tirelessly promoting equality and inclusion. Their innovative projects and initiatives have empowered young individuals to become agents of change, challenging social norms that perpetuate violence. Their dedication has positively impacted numerous lives and inspired others to join their cause.

Celebrating Breakthrough's Achievements:

The Breakthrough Movement has joined forces with influential youth movements like Love is Diversity, with the support of UN WOMEN Cambodia, to demonstrate the incredible power of young people in driving positive change. Together, they have organized events spotlighting innovative youth projects dedicated to advancing gender equality and fostering a more inclusive society. These projects include initiatives like Art and Mental Health, Code for Girls, SEED Cambodia, Young SEAkers Cambodia, Techno Beverages, Baykork, and RULErs. These networks actively strive to promote gender equality and positively transform society. By amplifying the voices of young individuals, the Breakthrough Movement has boldly confronted discriminatory social norms, paving the way for a fairer and more just society.

Looking Ahead:

As we reflect on the past three years, it is evident that the journey of the Breakthrough Movement is far from over. The need for their work remains urgent as gender-based violence continues to persist in our world. However, the Breakthrough Movement gains strength and support each year, inspiring others to join their cause. Together, we can strive towards a future where violence is eradicated, and equality and inclusion prevail.

As the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence coincide with the Breakthrough Movement's 3rd anniversary, let us celebrate their achievements and renew our commitment to the cause. By coming together and taking action, we can contribute to a society where violence is not tolerated, and all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. Let us honor the spirit of the 16-day campaign and the Breakthrough Movement by advocating for equality and inclusion in our communities and beyond.
